Here are some frequently asked questions and I would like to address them in this page. If you have other
questions that are not answered here, feel free to contact us. We will do our best to
answer them and put those questions on this page too!
+ Should I hire an entertainer for my child’s birthday party?
Yes and no. Hiring an entertainer can actually relief you of the headache of what the entertainment to provide for your guests. However, getting the wrong enteratainer for wrong type of party can be a problem.
So, if you are having a plain, simple birthday party, hiring an entertainer can be fun.
However, if you are having a party that is very active in nature, entertainer may not be required. For example, if you have a swimming party, it may back-fire if the guests ended up watching the show dripping wet!
Also, if the guests are too young (1-3 years old), getting an entertainer may be a waste of money too.
+ When should I send out my invitation card?
At least one month before the party date. This is to give ample time for the parents to plan their calendar ahead of time.
If you find yourselves with only 2 weeks (or less) before the party, you could try calling each guest's parents and get immediate RSVP. This can take an hour or so but it's worth the effort.
+ Should I send out my invitation card before or after I hired an entertainer?
That's a tricky question. Usually, I'll recommend sending out invitation cards AFTER hiring an entertainer. The reason is that you can put in the highlight of the party in the card so that it gets the guests excited.
If you do want to send out the invitation cards before hiring an entertainer, that's fine too. That's just my preference.
+ What should I look out for in “shopping” for an entertainer?
Here are some pointers for you: 1) Look at their website: If the website is professionally done up with a proper domain name (ie. www.TheirDomainName.com), you should be assured of the quality. Yes, I do judge an entertainer by the website because it should display the effort by the entertainer who wants to sell their services.
Afterall, would you want to buy your handbag from a professionally done website, or from a website that is ugly-looking? Of course, there are other pointer to look at, so let's look at the next one.
2) Check out the video: Most entertainers should have a video in their website or Youtube. If they don't, I suggest that you don't bother hiring them. Here's a good tip; get your kid to watch the video with you. If they like it, that should be the one to hire.
3) Talk to the entertainer: Insist on talking with the actual performer, not the person who is making the booking. Get comfortable with the person you are hirng.
+ What should I do when the children arrive?
You can do a few things: 1) Have an activity table. Put up some coloring pages and pencils. The coloring pages can be themed to the party. 2) Eat first! That's one good way to get them occupied before the entertainment starts.
+ What type of food should I prepare?
I would recommend mainly finger food so that you can reduce the chances of spills. For lunch you can always get pizza and other fast food menu, sausages and and sandwiches if the party is held around 2pm+.
Lastly, get packeted drinks for everyone as it is easier to manage. Put the drinks in an ice-box to keep them chilled.
+ How many guests should I invite?
In general, you should get about 15-20 kids to make the party fun. For younger kids (ie 1-3 years old), I think it's easier to manage with 10-15 kids.
+ How many invitation should I send to reach the expected turnout?
From experience, if you send out X number of invitation, you should receive 70% attendance.
So, if you send out 30 invitation cards, you should get 21+ guests arriving.
+ How long should the party be?
Most parties will last about 2-3 hours, unless you are planning for an overnight party. :)
+ What would be a general time-table for the party?
Assuming that the party is 2 hours long, you would plan as follows: 30 minutes - Guests arrival (Plan some activities or food) 60 minutes - Entertainment 10 minutes - Cake cutting 20 minutes - Distribute gifts or free time.
+ Do I need to prepare party bags?
I would recommend so. Party bags are a great way to thank the guests for coming. Most party bags can be bought straight from the local stores and they usually costs about $1-$2. A typical party of 25 kids will cost you only $25-$50 in party bags.
+ From your experience, what is the most forgotten item in a birthday party?
Lighter and plastic knife! Many parents goofed when it’s time to cut the cake!
